Impressed when I ate here especially since there are a plethora of fine steakhouses in the area that compete with this place. The free meal on your birthday is certainly a steal and the old school setting is fine. The lunch buffet is also splendid. Much better than the raindancer steakhouse.

Was there tonight for my birthday. Everything was excellent from hostess to wait staff to the lovely bartender.... The only thing I would change is the salad bar. Just not enough choices to want to partake of it. Excellent meal.

Wow! Haven't had a steak this good in a long time. Black Angus grilled to perfection. Excellent service as well. Will be back. Free dinner on your birthday as well. Yummy!

  • Ann S.

All the meat is Black Angus prime. I had an excellent filet and my dinner partner had a fish special, sea bass with crab and lobster crust, that was also delicious. Entrees came with salad and potato or rice, not typical of most steakhouses where everything is a la carte. Service was excellent. I would definitely go back as I thought this was a good value, given the high quality of the food. Dessert tray looked yummy, but we were too stuffed from dinner.

okeesteakhouse.com I wonder how anyone could have missed this been around since1947 one of a kind restaurant? Great history and great steaks!! I guess the location is so unassuming, that people must think the restaurant is also? Your in for a BIG SUPPRISE! Among the best Filets i have ever had. Certainly the best i have had in Florida. I've eaten there many times with many people and no one was ever disappointed.

A little over priced, but you definitely get what you pay for. The steak portions here are huge, and the side dishes are delicious. I would recommend going here for a birthday since they have free birthday meals. Like most of the good places in Florida, it's not necessarily centrally located in the major pedestrian city area, but when you do find it, it's a gem.

What was once a staple of West Palm Beach steak lovers, this place has hit rock bottom. I've had issues w/the service and food quality on both of my last two visits. I was brought a new york strip when ordered a delmonico, and my server insisted it was a delmonico. My family owned a deli for over 35 years, and I grew up around beef. This was no delmonico. Add to that the undercooked shrimp (big no no), and the poor service/management, and I have decided I will not return. Very sad, considering the great tradition of the once famed Okeechobee Steak House.

Favorite steak restaurant in Palm Beach County. EXCELLENT service... Good food and relaxing atmosphere. If you haven't been here you have to give it a try (especially if it's your birthday)!

This place is the best ! I go every time I am in West Palm. It doesn't get better than this and I have spent lots more money trying to find it. Good salad bar. Fab desserts. Do not pass up, repeat, do not pass up a martini. Great 5 star presentation. Thanks ....

If the steak I was served was Prime, as advertised, I will give them my lifes savings. In fact, I would be surprised if it was even Choice. Flavorless, tough, I've had far better at a chain like Outback. Boring bread, albeit hot, generic salad bar, dissapointing garlic mashed potatoes. The only saving grace was a very nice waitress. Under no circumstances would I return.

It was good....for a steak i don't really like too much meat i had the small fillet, i remember that there is a salad bar like total 90's style, It was a nice, small, elegant restaurant. My meal came with the typical baked potato i opted out for asparagus, they were great, they also have a nice wine selection, i love the house Chardonnay. Great service i wasn't blown away the place could use some renovation to update the decor. The food was good though, a little pricey i will admit, for the ambiance its very romantic

Day after new years 2012. Long day of work and hungry for a classic steak house meal. Walked in and out Stonewood Grill, packed and loud. Next drove over to Beef Wellington... closed. Found Okeecheobee Steak House on a quick internet search for steaks and was 12 minutes away. Valet was good and let me park up front myself. Had a nice chat with the hostess who was spot on and entertaining. Had a booth by myself, wait staff was fast, informative and professional. Steak and prawns were cooked exactly as expected and good all around meal. Anchovies on the ceaser is a bonus. A classic old style steak house experience. I was expecting a bit more style and appropriate dress from my fellow patrons, but the loud t-shirt group of 6 next to me and the other sweatpant/cell phone ringing crew next door was all that kept this a perfect steak night. Blue jeans and a hat for me next time...:) Go eat here.. you will like it a lot.

It's one of the best if not the best steakhouses in the country. If you live or vacation in south Florida it is a must! Also the best bartenders anywhere!

I decided to take my family for a special dinner on Saturday March 5, 2011. Because they don't take reservations, the waiting room at 6 p.m. was very, very crowded. As we were waiting, we overheard the receptionist on the phone saying, "Come on down, There's no waiting." My daughter and I had an ironic laugh at that. The dinner was very tasty. However, the very next day all the adults in our party - who had eaten the steak - got very sick for two days afterward. When I called the restaurant to inform them of this, they were very snooty and unfriently, implying that I was lying. The experience was a huge disappointment to me because, instead of the special occasion I envisioned, it made my family sick. Naturally, I will never go back. And a word of warning, I was informed by my credit card company that I will have to pay for this dinner because, when it comes to restaurants, I have no dispute rights.

you know, a free (or half price) steak dinner on your birthday is worth getting into. I have always gone there on my birthday. This year was the last for me. I ordered the filet mignon, butterflied and oscar. what I got were two medalions less than a inch thick (compared to a hunk of filet I was shown on the platter that would fill a big coffee mug. Tthe bernaise was SO bad, I could not eat my meal. they tried to salvage it, but I took the pathetic leftover home, and did not care to eat it the next day. SO, I called. They were very nice, and I got two $25 certificates in the mail. I went back with a friend and we ordered a NY strip each, mine med rare (came out med), his well done, (came out bloody), so I sat and waited till they brought his steak back. MY baked potato was clearly burnt, and the au poviore was a gastly thick greasy mess, with cracked peppercorns that could not get any flavor through the thick greasy "gravy". It got scraped off and we were still charged. The stuffed prawn were stuffed with not "crab stuffing" but crab flavored breadcrumb paste. it was nasty, no crab evident at all. I get he feeling this old family restaurant is trying to cut corners as far as they can be cut, and ride the reputation right to the grave. I have had my very last birthday, or any other meal at this place. I am a long time customer and a life time resident. I will not spend another disgusting meal at this restaurant.

We just had an Amazing meal there tonight. We sat at the Bar and Inga couldn't have been more attentive. The food was excellent. Today is my Wife's Birthday and they have a policy of a free Steak on your Birthday. I had Stuffed Shrimp ( with a Crabmeat stuffing,) and Alyce had a Porterhouse (you get a free New York Strip and pay the difference.) She said it was one of the best Steaks she's ever had. Everything about the meal was super sized. Honest Drinks,. Big Salad, Big Steaks, extra large Potato, and Desserts large enough for Two. We plan on going back soon.

The best steak ever! And that says a lot from someone who doesn't like meat. My dad and I took my mom here for her birthday, and let me just say I don't think any of us have ever been that selfish with our food. The meat was just perfect. Everyone has their own definition of what they consider to be great steak, but I can assure you that no matter what your expectation of steak eating is, I'm sure that Okeechobee Steakhouse will meet your satisfaction.

Very nice experience at the Okeechobee steak house. As most of the reviews state, this place is dark, with a very old school steak house feel. Service is good, hostess was nice. There was a 30 min wait on a Wednesday night, which was surprising, but we were seated in under 30. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable in the cuts of meat offered. Now for the food. Everything was very good. I can't say it was the BEST steak I've ever had, but very good. I had the NY strip and hubby had porterhouse. Both were cooked to perfection. The only thing that could have been better and warranted a 5 star is just a little added punch of flavor in the steaks. But they were very good . I also had the shrimp scampi which was delicious! Dessert was absolutely fabulous. We shared the peanut butter pie thing. Soooooooo good. All and all I would recommend this place, very good, clean and friendly. It is pricey, and for the price you can find a fancier dining experience, but if an old fashioned steakhouse is your cup of tea then this place is it!

'Love the bread, the steak, the baked potato, green veggies on the side and the staff's professionalism!! You better call for reservation as they're always packed, waiting time would be 25 mins. Oh and try the wild grilled salmon too!

This place is a West Palm Beach institution. Best steak in town, excellent service and a classic atmosphere. Although this is the best local place for a steak dinner, they also have an excellent and affordable lunch menu.

The menu is outstanding. The wait staff brings out steaks to show what you are purchasing to get you educated on different cuts. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable and want you to enjoy your dinner to the max

I was there for Mothers Day 2015. I had the colossal shrimp cocktail, the 14oz NY Strip with a salad and baked potato. NY Style Cheesecake for dessert. The steak was excellent! My only negative was the loaded baked potato had bacon bits that were meh. Otherwise, exceptional and I'll be going back soon. Definitely, make a reservation!.

Fantastic Steakhouse. We go there every year for the free birthday steak - they comp your bill $27, the price of the small NY strip. I don't usually order seafood at a Steakhouse, but their shrimp scampi was out of this world! Six jumbo shrimp over angel hair pasta and the butter garlic scampi was absolutely perfect! A generous portion too. I had leftovers the next day. The service their is outstanding.

We hadn't been here for over a year, after a few mediocre visits, but decided we'd do the "birthday special" steak. The bar was very comfy and "happy hour" drinks were perfect. e moved to the dining room around 6:30 on a Monday. It was moderately busy, but our waiter came right away and gave us great service. We both got the NY strip steak and I had the gorgonzola salad to start. Steak fries and baked potato were very good. Peppercorn sauce for the steak was just right. We topped it all off with a surprisingly rich chocolate mousse for dessert - yes, they even sang happy birthday to my husband! All in all, the food was terrific, service was really good. And reasonably priced (even without the special). They're back on our list.

Really dark interior, but kinda nice I got the french dip sandwich and it was pretty decent, but not $12 decent. I got green beans with it that was better. Desserts looked good, but I had a flight to catch so didn't have time for it. Parking is located behind the restaurant due to construction going on all around the place. The do valet if you are too lazy to park it yourself

I went to the Okeechobee steak house for the first time in years last week and I had an all around terrible experience... Let me begin by saying that staff members tried their best to rectify the situation so I'm not as unsatisfied with them....I generally do not write bad reviews but I feel like this is unequivocally warranted. The bottom line is there was an hour and twenty minute wait between appetizer and entree and I could have lived with that if the food was spectacular, however everything we ordered at our table was average to below average, not even up to the standards of a much less expensive Steakhouse like the Outback. The Salads were bland with some browning lettuce, the Garlic Mashed Potatoes were the worst I have ever tasted, the Cauliflower had so much Garlic it was inedible! I had to send back my Shrimp entrée because the shrimp was all dried out! If this was an inexpensive restaurant I wouldn't even bother writing a review but this is a very expensive restaurant and as far as I'm concerned the most overpriced in regards to quality and service I've been to in a long, long time!

Every time I have ever been to Okeechobee steakhouse I have always had an incredible experience. Absolutely worth the money, you really get what you pay for. All the food, from seafood to poultry and of course the beef is amazing. The sides are great, they have good wine to go with the food and a full bar. The service is outstanding, they really want you to have a good time. I would say that it is worth every penny, but once you get there and start eating, you're not concerned about the price.

Traditional steakhouse with the best service, Ask for a booth. Escargot was as good as it gets. Steaks cooked perfectly and met our very expectations. BUT wait there's more, you must and we mean must leave room for their homemade desserts! The NY cheesecake hit it out of the park! Footnote: the garlic mash is fabulous despite other reviews. We almost passed on them because of another yelp! Thank goodness we choose to decide for ourselves. Ask for Kyle he was very attentive and knowledge!

This is an old favorite of ours, great steaks amazing salad bar and great service. I eaten at this restaurant for around 40 years and never had a disappointing experience. It is old school but sometime you are in the mood for old school and this is the place to get your nostalgia buzz on. We love this place and will be back again and again.

The steaks are huge & absolutely delicious! The salad & bake potatoes are amazing! Dessert peanut butter cake was fantastic! Upscale steakhouse well worth the prices. I love Ruth Chris & Del Friscos. However, I would chose this place over them anytime!

Whether you consider yourself a connoisseur of fine steaks & chops or just love the taste of a perfectly prepared dry aged NY Strip, then you need to swing by this establishment. Walking in feels like you've entered a vintage steakhouse. Its atmosphere is cozy & warm and its staff are extremely attentive. You know its a great place when you keep seeing the same faces day in and day out. The Steaks are among the best around and the seafood is hard to contend with. The Sesame encrusted Ahi tuna simple melts on your tongue and the black and blue filet topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms is a symphony of flavors until the last bite. The Wine list is perfectly adequate & well priced. I'd also recommend the crab stuffed mushrooms in a garlic butter reduction as its sure to start of your meal just right. And lastly, lets not forget the homemade desserts! My recommendation, the Peanut butter pie, as its utter bliss. Mr. & Mrs. Lewis & the folks at Okeechobee surly have the recipe for success since they've been getting it right for the past 40+ years.

Excellent meal for four here. They feature unusual cuts ("Kansas City," "Delmonico," even beef tips) and the sides run the usual gamut of potatoes (French, baked) and vegetables (asparagus, spinach [2 kinds]), served with bread and a salad. The wine list is serviceable (but a red Cotes du Rhone or Bordeaux would be welcome--a "claret" of some sort). They bring the cuts of meat out on a tray to school you, and they do this with desserts, too (Key Lime pie, peanut butter pie, cheesecake, others). The place was spotless and didn't have the musty smell that older restaurants have (this one dates to the 1940s). You can feel comfortable here: clearly they run a respectable, elegant place but there's no snobbishness or snootiness. Bring a fat wallet though, some steak cuts run $40 and up, I would budget $75 person with a glass of wine.

Our party of six enjoyed the setting, and our meals. Prices are a bit aggressive, but all quality steak houses are that way. Four of us shared two entrees and the restaurant waived the $9 sharing charge. The wine list had several reasonably priced choices, and a decent selection of wines by the glass. Our Delmonico steak was cooked to perfection, and frankly sharing the accompanying salad and sides, was more than filling. My friend was not too happy with the porterhouse he shared, but his wife loved hers...go figure. The six of us shared three desserts, and especially loved the coconut creme pie, and chocolate mousse. Our waiter, Oldun, was knowledgeable, and attentive...top notch. By sharing, we saved some money, our bill came to $85 per couple, pre-tip...not bad for a superior experience.

Like Christmas as a kid. The one when you didn't get the present you wanted more than anything in the world! What a letdown! Pleasant enough service, but even the waiter admitted my prime rib had more gristle "than usual." Prime rib should have damn little gristle at all. I had to fight through the gristle to get to the meat, which was easier to chew than the gristle, but not much. Earlier, I wrote "letdown." Scratch that. Disgusting is the word. Did my friendly waiter do anything to make it right? Nope. Not even an apology. Unfortunately, and unusually, under such circumstances, I wasn't in a mood to escalate my complaint. It makes my wife uncomfortable, and the waiter's attitude made me conclude that management wouldn't care, either. To be fair, my wife's Delmonico was good. But that doesn't excuse the horrible piece of meat on my plate, and the waiter's failure to react correctly. After years of wanting to go to this this "famous, iconic, landmark" steak joint, never again. First and last time. Another one of those "we eat better at home" lessons learned to late. Ah, well, my friends who ask for restaurant recommendations will benefit from my sorry experience .

Took Dad for late lunch at bar. Bar burger for $4 was awesome. Should of just got a 2nd sandwich. Ordered Steak Tips @ $20.99, tiniest portion ever with side of frozen steak fries. They had a nice marinated taste but 5 little tips for that price? Almost left for that alone. Stick with the cheap happy hour specials & you'll be fine. Tried the calamari, onion rings, fries, & burgers. Nothing special but the burger was delicious and a bargain. Way overpriced for everything else imo.

Hi this is a great place. As a person that has gone to many steak houses this one feels like home. I have been here now twice and the best feature is the service! Every person is attentive and courteous . Even at the bar the level of service isn't even Flinched. Add to this the awesome salads and sandwiches we had and the delicious soft steak tidbits. Hummmn the flower less chocolate cake and the nice wine selection and awesome atmosphere with great patrons finished crowning the awesome evening.

After another trip to Ockechobee Steak, I will still say that they need to remodel the front to make the place look as good as the food tastes. With the fact that the outside makes it look like a hybrid between a Denny's and Ruth's Chris, the food inside, if served over at the tony Cityplace, would keep this place packed at twice its size. They have phenomenal prime rib, and, lunch or dinner it's a great meal with really good service.

Well I guess this place proves that my spouse and I are not true foodies, because we found the food here as "nothing special". My dining partners had a Chicken Florentine sandwich and both of them thought the sandwich was good but not great. I had the center cut sirloin, medium rare with nothing added to it. I am the kind of steak guy who loves a well cooked steak, bloody and no sauce. I expected to moan with pleasure with every bite of this steak. That did not happen; I don't blame the venue though, I must just not be an aged steak kind of guy. On another note, the interior is clean, old world dark heavy wood finish. Our dinner partner noted that it felt like we had stepped into a David Lynch film (not necessarily a bad thing). The service was in-freaking-credible. Eric was our waiter and I simply do not remember the last time someone did that thorough of a job. We had told him we were leaving the restaurant for a 4 hour road trip and he brought drinks in to go cups, spontaneously. That is service. I would not eat here again more than likely, but if you like HUGE pieces of aged steak, you'll probably love this place.

For our anniversary we re-searched and phoned name brand steakhouses within 35 miles of our home for off menu Steak Diane-for-two. Only Okeechobee Steakhouse 10 year veteran Chef Jaime (my spelling) and host Lewis said yes. We luxuriated in bountiful Steak Diane having been seated within 3 minutes of our 7pm reservation. Our meal was orchestrated by professional server, Michael Chard. Ambrosia was our one word praise for Chef Jaime who came by our table to receive our appreciation. Generous array of to-order grilled fillet Mignon with understated, reduced and tasty brown sauce knocked our socks off. Plenty for us to take home for a second full meal. Special thanks for head bartender Ingrid for introducing us to another couple, 20 year long customers, who along with two other customers spontaneously interacted with us celebrating and having our picture taken for our anniversary. Okeechobee Steakhouse uses huge taste, style, and judgment to make our experience memorable. We can't wait to return. We can't leave our Jacob who helped us select and deliver our two forked decadent dessert. The 60 mile I-95 roundtrip was worth every minute and every penny. We're foodies, not affiliated with any restaurant, chef, server, or purveyor. We cherish places and people who are as passionate we are about a great meal.

I had a craving for steak. This restaurant is well know to have the best steak! The staff were all friendly. Our waiter was funny and very polite. We ordered the escargots- very good, it just needs more garlic, porterhouse steak- tender, tasty, and great with the cheese topping, bone-in-ribeye- my husband loved it! I did a Sauvignon blanc as my wine pairing and it was a perfect match. We ordered the bread pudding to go. All the waiter had to say was "you could take it to go" and "grand marnier" and I was sold. $200 later we had left overs for 2 days!

I come for lunch weekly. The food is always top notch, the prices are a tad higher than a chain restaurant but the difference is in the food. The staff is always friendly and far superior to other places. The place is older but it also has been open many years and that tells the real story.

I have lived in Palm Beach for about 10 years and have been here numerous times and never been disappointed. The food and service is superb. On my last visit, ordered the Porterhouse which was phenomenal, tasty without any sauce. Wife had the steak and shrimp and was also great. Definitely will come here again in the near future. Great establishment, decor is outdated, but nothing that diminishes the great food and service.

Seared Ahi appetizer was cooked as it should be, perfectly rare. Ahi was high quality sushi grade. Soy dipping sauce tasted great. 20 oz KC Strip and 8 oz filet both cooked perfectly medium rare. Strip was tender and juicy, 2 in thick, certified Angus I am told. Filet melted in your mouth. Potato and salad included in your meal. They know how to cook a baked potato. A 24 oz porterhouse was observed "next table" and looked great. Atmosphere old style and comfortable. Our server had been working there over 40 yrs and was very attentive. Great Steakhouse.

Talk about Old School....this is the place! First class help and very good steaks. They explain all the various cuts of meat and give you their recommendation. You won't leave here hungry with the fresh baked bread, salad & veggies. Valet parking makes things even easier...definitely give it a try!!!

Amazing EVERY time we go. Love this place! I have tried every cut they have, all very good steaks. I am usually a filet or strip girl. My man ALWAYS gets the French Onion Soup. Save room for the Coconut Cream Pie, Peanut butter Pie and Cappuccinos with a sugar swivel stick!

We live in the Miami area and enjoy eating out, the service was OUTSTANDING, Ron was our waiter , he went the extra mile to make this meal very enjoyable and the steaks were unbelievable the best we have ever had .The location is deceiving to what good service and food are inside .

Overpriced Steak was cooked right, but it didn't seem totally OK, service was just Ok, drinks not so good, dessert less than average publix pie. Spend over $175 in lunch for 2, i could get better food experience in any of the regular steakhouses around. It was just OK, the steak look something that they just picked at publix, nothing special

  • Aaron B.

I have eaten at many of the country's best steakhouses and am proud to say the one I live closest to, is also my favorite. Compared to other local steak houses like Council Oak, NY Prime and NYY Steak, this is clearly the best. This place is simply incredible. The food, service, and atmosphere. My only complaint is that it is pretty expensive, but you do get what you pay for and the money is well spent. I usually get the bone-in ribeye and french onion soup. Both are huge so be sure to go with a big appetite.

My Mother and I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago. I had an opportunity to review them on Open Table. I'm afraid it was not a favorable review. When the establishment read it they invited us back to try again. Of course we were fawned over, as I expected would be. The meal was comped. I allowed the chef to make the choices since it was their dime. We started with the house salad which was very pedestrian. Then we were offered a huge steak, not very tender but properly seasoned. The side of lobster mac and cheese was good but overly rich. The mashed potatoes were crying for some cream and seasoning. Desert was chocolate moose and flour less chocolate cake. The moose was in my opinion ruined by the chocolate sauce and the Oreo cookie used as a garnish. The cake was spot on and very rich and lush. Our waitress was sweet and accommodating . I appreciate the comp meal but even all that graciousness we will not return...sadly. I believe they are in a bit of a time warp. Dinner needs to be memorable with each course building upon the next. One should feel as though their pallet is experiencing something wonderful for body and soul. We left feeling heavy and underwhelmed. I do appreciate their efforts to regain our culinary trust, but it is not meant to be.

We have eaten here before over the last 20 years, but tonight was a big disappointment. It has been some time that we were here and noted sadly their salad bar is no more. We went for a birthday dinner, where they take the price of a strip steak ($26.99) off any 2 entrees you choose. My wife had the prime rib which she said was excellent. I ordered the 9 oz. (only size) filet mignon for $48.00. It was so fatty, I could hardly chew it. The waiter did his job and asked if I would like a replacement. I demurred because I hate to have anybody waiting till one finishes a meal solo. The bill came and it sort of knocked me off my seat. Mysteriously the price of my filet was now $53.00, and I didn't order anything extra ( A salad and a side come withe meal) - all other sides are astronomical like all premium steakhouses. As I paid the tab, I told the waiter this was the worse steak I ever had. He quickly called the manager over, and despite the fact that I had already signed the bill with the tip. she quickly took $53.00 off and rewrote the check. I upped the tip for the waiter. I applauded her smarts, but you can get a better steak (albeit without the ambiance) at one third the price at Longhorn

i had my bachelor party here a year ago and had my brother's here last weekend. it's comfortable, homey, dark, and masculine. the service is always great, the food is amazing (several people commented it was the best steak they ever had). this is a palm beach county landmark. good for date night, but great for a night out with the fellas (there are more romantic environments for women). highly recommend!!

I love this steakhouse. As a Kansas girl I know a good steak and Okeechobee Steak House always serves a great piece of meat. My favorite is the filet with the gorgonzola crust which includes sauteed onions and mushrooms. Salad bar, warm bread, creamed spinach and a martini topped off my meal. The staff is top notch and always treats me well. Bea is a terrific server, very attentive and helpful. I'll be back again, and again, and again!

Top notch steaks, service and atmosphere. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Bartenders were fabulous.

My dining experience at this steak house was enhanced by the service. Our Waitress Terri, made our meal more enjoyable. The Steak I had, Porterhouse, was aged and cooked to perfection. The fish selection, Salmon, was also very good. They have a salad bar which was decent. The atmosphere is old school, dark and romantic. My only issue was the pricing which could have been a liitle bit more reasonable, however the specials are very cost effective.

on vacation with my wife to get out of the cold and looking for a great steak dinner and a nice evening out. onion rings are great, the steaks are all cut in house. I had a bone in rib steak cooked "pittsburg style" with loaded mashed potatoes. My wife had the filet and lobster, she share a bite of the filet but the lobster was off limits (she loved it) dessert was the best bread pudding ever. Its easily big enough for four, we took a little back to our hotel for later.

Sixty five years and only getting better,Wendy S was our waitress the absolute best personality, knowledge and were 5star the owner found a treasure. The food was great salads fresh, onion soup cheesy ,shrimp in romesco sauce great balance it was a special it should replace the stuffed shrimp much better. Cocoanut cream pie to die for, not cheap but an oasis in area that sorely needs help in the food department.this is a must stop.

I am really proud to start my blog with my first experience at the Okeechobee Steakhouse in WPB, Fl. This place had been recommended to me a few times so I thought Michelle and I would make a visit when we were in the area. We arrived about 9PM and we were a little surprised at how small and unsophisticated the building looked from the outside. We were greeted by a friendly valet who took our car keys and directed us to the front door. An earlier phone call had cleared our way for immediate seating and we found the greet staff amazingly friendly and courteous, both of which are not always found in South Florida eateries. The inside, which had been recently updated, reminded me of the "old school" steakhouses of yesteryear with dark walls and dim lighting. Frank Sinatra crooned in the background. I learned that the place was established in 1947 and I believe at the same location all those years. I went for the ribeye steak and Michelle opted for a large shrimp cocktail and a salad. I like my steak crisp on the outside and medium on the inside. I ask for "Pittsburgh-medium" and usually get a questionable look from the order taker. But no problem for The Okeechobee Steakhouse and it was cooked to perfection. The fat all melted leaving the most tasty steak I have had in years with absolutely no waste. Michelle loved her salad and shrimp and we vowed to return. About halfway thru the meal one of the air conditioners froze up but we were only mildly uncomfortable. The management sprang for the dessert and coffee. We were casually dressed and the other customers ranged from casual to semi formal and they were from all age groups. If you are ever in the West Palm Beach area I am sure you would enjoy a meal at the Okeeechobee Steakhouse. Be sure to visit my blog for more reviews

The food here is really good but I hate the atmosphere.. It reminds me someplace that Tony Soprano would eat at.. Its major old school dark and freezing in there.... A little outdated for my liking but the food was pretty good... And the Wait Staff has been there forever....

I set out this evening headed for Raindancer across the street but they were closed. Although 'the dancer' is the usual place for this WPBer steak fix I have eaten at Okeechobee before. Tonight I was pleased to change it up. Our service was excellent, we had a very polite & accommodating waiter who had a pleasant & professional demeanor. While we didn't venture far from the typical steak dinner the staple dishes are well worth mentioning. The NY strip was juicy, cooked as ordered and delicious. I always order a side of Béarnaise and it was wonderful! My boyfriend's Au Poivre sauce was mouth watering! I must also make mention of their mashed potatoes as they were whipped creamy, just like mom's ( that is, if your mother made a mean batch of mashed potatoes.) The only area I saw for improvement for this old world steakhouse was the wine list. The by-the-glass wine selection is unimaginative and needs a new direction. I see this at restaurants often, they may have an expensive by-the-bottle selection with a few noteworthy names but they fail on the middle price range offerings. Offering a few more interesting by-the-glass selections my make this WPBer cross the street more often.

My parents have been here a few times, and I had always wanted to try it. With my birthday approaching I chose this as the place to celebrate with my family. The "free steak" on your birthday didn't hurt either. Technically, they will give you a free 8 oz. NY Strip valued at 25.99 if you order a steak of equal or greater value, or if you want another steak, they will just deduct the 25.99 off your bill. Still a very nice deal. This place is as old school as it gets. It is dark with low ceilings, stone work, and wood paneling. It does have a "goodfellas" feel to it. I like it. Servers are dressed in white shirts and black ties. I made a reservation on open table and we had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated, and the place was packed on a Sunday night even though the restaurant is not small. At the beginning of our meal, our server brought out various cuts of meat, similar to the presentation at Morton's. I opted for an 8 oz. fillet, Oscar style, i.e. with crab meat, asparagus and Bearnaise sauce. The steak comes with a salad and side, of which I got garlic mashed potatoes. For an appetizer, I sampled a crab stuffed prawn that was really fresh and tasty. I chose the Gorgonzola salad and it was a nice sized salad that was crisp and fresh. The Caesar salad got good reviews. None of us chose to partake in the salad bar. My steak was really delicious. Perfectly seasoned, tender and tasty and the addition of the crab meat, asparagus and sauce only added to my enjoyment of the steak. My father ordered the prime rib and it looked to be a bit overly fatty. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Caprese over pasta which she found to be satisfactory but nothing special. My brother's steak was served significantly later than the rest of the entrees due to an error. This was annoying and should not have happened, but our waitress offered free coffee/cappuccino to the entire table to make up for this mistake. My mother, brother and grandmother all enjoyed their meals. Sides of creamed spinach, and particularly the onion rings were awesome. Our waitress was happy to serve the birthday cake my mother brought and placed a really cool sparkler in it. The bar area here is cool with three massive flat screen televisions. This is a good old school steakhouse and I would definitely like to return.

The best damn steakhouse in West Palm Beach. They have a nice salad bar. The bread could be a little softer. A lot of history comes with this place. My grandparents went there when they were younger from Pahokee. Something tells me that the drive was worth all the while for them. They give you a free dinner on your birthday if you buy something of equal or lesser value. My husband loves their filet mignon there. I have had their baby back ribs and chicken. I must say that it is super great. The staff actually knows what they are talking about and are excellent with recommendations. It's a shame we only go there for our birthdays or for a celebration or two. It can get a bit pricey, but it's well worth it.

I was helping a friend move back to the beach, and he took us out to dinner at this old school steak house. It is dark, lots of wood, and staff dressed in the old school black uniforms with bow ties. While the steaks are top notch, ( they presnt them to you before you order), it is far from perfect. For starters, the salad bar. It is awful as can be, A few items look like they just came out of a bucket, and the few vegetables they had looked far from fresh. The dressings station was a mess. Half empty containers of dressing dripping inside and out. We passed. The presentation is lackluster. Nothing but the steak on a single plate. All the sides are served seperately. The baked potato was really overdone. The crowd is not the hippest either. Go for the steaks, not the ambience.

Great steak and helpful staff. It's kinda dark and old looking though. It seems that everyone is there cashing in their free steak for their birthday. It's better than Outback but more expensive. All in all, I'd say just go to Outback and save this place for the free birthday steak.

From the outside it doesn't look like much. From the inside it's low ceilings and dark interior remind you of your grandparents' dreary old house, but that is a good thing. Nothing contemporary or foo foo, but still at least throw on your nicest haggar pants, splash on some Brut or Axe body spray, some $ scrilla $ and treat your baby mama to a steak.... this is a classy joint.. A nice place to have some great food, so here where my review starts: First off, bring some money (see ablove "scrilla"). Expect to throw down at least a Benjamin for drinks, appetizer, and 2 entrees, tip. etc. For me the quality of service and food makes this a good place for special occasions. I have had 2 of the featured steaks. I can't remember their names off the bat, but I liked the bone-in ribeye the best. Large portions and cooked perfectly. My wife always gets the tenderloin tip sandwich. This is probably the best tasting/lowest price item on the menu, hence as I believe, the greatest value. Don't fill up on the bread. The loaves are very large and addicting. They make an incredible "snowy" mess on your table and lap as well. Make sure you get Bernaise sauce and dip everything in it. It is amazing This place is comparable to other top-end steakhouses. Ruth's, Morton's...etc..but has a much homier/local feel to it.

    (4)
  • Jim B.

One of the best steakhouses in the country. Not a claim I make lightly as I've had the good fortune to sample and compare this place to the likes of Morton's, Ruth Chris, and The Palm. This place can be expensive, but the quality and experience is worth it. If you want to save a little cash, check out the early bird menu which is available seven days.

    (5)
  • Mauro R.

This place has plenty of history. That said today it is an aging place way overpriced for the quality fo the food. Filet mignon at $ 40-45 should definitely be leaner, taste better (not metallic) and be cooked exactly as requested. Don't get me wrong, the place is not bad, but it is a decent steakhouse with upscale prices that are not justified by the quality of the food.

Absolutely ATROCIOUS. Stay home and make your own steaks!! Okeechobee Steak House is equally as dreadful as Raindancer Steak House. I'm sorry, but what are people thinking giving this place over 1 star??!! The service - awful. Every question I had, our server didn't know and had to go and ask. The food - disgusting. Salad bar - I can get a better salad at Jason's Deli or Sweet Tomatoes for 1/2 the price and have quadruple the options. The ambiance - um, what ambiance? The dinner crowd - it's sad to try to go out and have a nice dinner, surrounded by people wearing jeans and sweat pants. Shameful. The valet - holy attitude problem. Everything about this place screams "We think we're a premiere steak house but we really have no clue what we're doing - we hope our faking it isn't too transparent..." Utterly dreadful.

I'm thinking that (from reading the other reviews) either I went on a REALLY off night, or people are just kinder than I am :) I think that for the price the steaks were good, but should have been better considering what they charge. I can buy a HUGE package of spectacular steaks at BJ's for myself, my husband and some friends- for the price of one of Okeechobee Steak House's steaks. I've eated at a Shula's Steakhouse, and though they had poor service, the steaks were much better than at Okeechobee Steakhouse. When you charge as much as these places do, the food had better be amazing. Our salads were lacking (caesar), our server was poor (he barely refilled our drinks, barely checked on us). Just not a great experience. Will not be back.

This is a great local place to grab a steak. Its cheaper than Ruth Chris and Mortons and the quality is up there. If its your birthday, you eat here free. They have a great steaks here. My favorite meal here is a steak (size depends) a baked potato and the salad bar with a nice cold Yingling. The atmosphere here is caveish. Its very dark with low ceilings. Its very clean.

This is a steak place. Get steak. This review reflects only their steak. It is outstanding. Deliciously seasoned, tender, flavorful. The escargot I was not impressed by. Tasted a little too much like they added minced garlic from a jar (that marinade-y taste and smell). Would not recommend. The Chilean sea bass itself was really good, but the arugula salad around was way too sour, making it the only thing I could taste, avoid the salad. Seared tuna was overcooked, chewy, and just as bland as could be. The house salad was really good, with fresh greens, and tasty cheese mixture on top. Balsamic vinaigrette is delicious.

I've been coming here for years and this place just does not change and that is for the best. They have stellar service, excellent steaks and killer cocktails. Just thinking about this place makes me want to go now! You get the feeling of the old-fashioned steak pub that you went to with your parents when you were younger. Everything is good and the escargot... wonderful!! Oh and they give you a steak dinner on your birthday, how cool is that?!

Okeechobee Steak House was awesome long before many of the high-end steakhouse chains like Ruth's Chris, The Palm, and Morton's ever built their first restaurant. Jim and Norma Lewis opened Okeechobee Steak House in 1947 right on the corner of Okeechobee Boulevard and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach, FL, and that's where you'll find OSH today, still run by the Lewis family. The décor might seem a bit dated, and the restaurant is dark inside, but the place is very clean, and somehow it all works when you see the quality of the steak that they put in front of you. OSH has developed their own exclusive in-house aging process for beef, which creates a succulent flavor that will leave your taste buds begging for one more bite. If you're like me, you hate lots of fat on your steak. Our waiter told us that all steaks are closely hand trimmed the old fashioned way. My business associate and I had eaten there years ago in my pre-Yelp days, but we were glad to go back and enjoy another excellent steak dinner. Our waiter was fantastic, and very well-trained. He started by welcoming us back and taking our drink order, and was back in moments with our drinks and a loaf of fresh-from-the-oven bread and sweet creamery butter. He told us the story of the restaurant, and how each cut of beef was aged and hand-trimmed. While we sipped our drinks, he was back with a silver platter to show us each cut of meat, and to tell us the features and benefits of each steak. (I felt like I was back at Bern's, and I enjoyed every moment!) He recommended a brand new appetizer called Lobster Corn Dogs for Larry and I to share. This turned out to be a huge New Zealand lobster tail, split in half, skewered, and then dipped in corndog batter and fried. Each of the lobster corn dogs was about 6 bites of sweet lobster meat and crunchy batter. Really tasty, and something very different. I was still full from our lunch, and so I passed on the opportunity to gnaw on the Fred Flintstone-sized bone-in Ribeye steak, and instead ordered the 9-ounce filet. For my sides I had creamed spinach and sautéed Spanish onions. The steak was out-of-this-world delicious, cooked perfectly, and a real treasure to enjoy. OSH has sirloins, strips, Delmonico's, and Porterhouse, along with the filet and that big ol' honkin' bone-in Ribeye that hung over both sides of the plate when he brought it out to show us. Our waiter came back several times to be sure that the steaks were cooked as expected, and to see if we needed any more sauces or sides. If you're not a steak lover the menu also has pork chops, shrimp scampi, fried shrimp, tuna, lobster tails, and grilled chicken breast. If you love prime rib, they have two different-sized cuts that looked amazing. This is not a cheap meal, but well worth it considering the quality of the food, and the historical charm of the restaurant. Tell your waiter that you're unsure about what to order, and then sit back and enjoy as they tell you the story of Okeechobee Steak House, and show off all of the different steaks on a silver platter. An excellent meal!

If you really want a great steak just go here, period. You get what you pay for and you'll get it here. Voted one of the best in our country for a reason. The only place for me when I have a craving for a big 'Ole juicy one!

This actually a really good restaurant for the area. Food is really good - calamari was nice, make sure you get the onion rings with horseradish sauce. We had a few steaks and sides. Steaks were cooked just right and seasoning was on point. I would visit again if I was in the area.

Kyle is the man to serve you. he will treat you with kid gloves. I received a free 8oz New York strip steak an incredible house salad with plenty of pepper followed by the best steak that reminded me of M&M's bcuz it melted in my mouth not in my hand. They have a dry aging process that I will attempt to duplicate but certain to fall short. My birthday cake was smooth and creamy peanut butter second to none. Everyone sang badly witch was a plus..thanks Kyle Blake. U made my day.

The food was good, we ordered the filet mignon cooked perfectly and it was delicious, the cream of spinach was tasty, the service was good but after we ordered the two cocktails we decided to get 2 glasses of wine wit the dinner although the server kept trying to sell us the whole bottle if this very expensive high in bottle and we told him that we are driving and won't be able to have the bottle so he was still a little pushy but after we said no firmly he changed his additive but after all he was very nice and we had a pretty good experience and we will be coming back!!

Went here for my birthday last week. The place was pretty busy for a Thursday night, I guess that's the norm for them. We started off with Pinot Grigio and calamari, both were excellent and came out pretty quick. For main course, we had the filet special with 2 jumbo shrimp on top and sauces and mash potato as a side. The filet was cooked per our liking and sauce were great. Our waiter talked us into getting a dessert, we chose chocolate cake to go which was so huge it lasted us until the next day. The only complain I had was the service could have been a bit better, not sure if the waiter was new but he wasn't very engaging with us and he didn't even remember it was my birthday and tried to charge me fully for my meal. For this type of place & how much we spent...I expected a better all around service.

Okeechobee steakhouse makes a mean steak, and I've had my share of mean steaks. Sure, it's sort of expensive, but I think you get what you pay for. The interior of the place is pretty old-school style. The restaurant offers a pretty decent salad bar in addition to your meal, which is nice since the offerings are pretty good at the salad bar. I've had the chicken and the prime rib here, both were excellent and a step above your typical "nice" steakhouse like Ruth's Chris. The service is always awesome and friendly. I t's almost really easy to miss on such a busy road but stop in and I assure you won't be disappointed.

This is our favorite steak house. Start off with the fact that the service is excellent. The wait staff have all been there forever, which is one of the indicators of a good restaurant in my book. This West Palm institution just went through a remodel and it looks great. I highly recommend the bone-in rib eye. I've always preferred filet until I had OSH's bone in rib eye. Their filet is very good too. I also recommend their baked potato with the melted cheese and bacon.

Outstanding steakhouse. Great steaks, accompaniments, sides and desserts. Everything you'd expect at a true quality steakhouse. They take their dry aged steaks seriously and make sure to prepare it exactly to your liking. I didn't know that a Pittsburgh style charred outside steak could be ordered more well done than RARE but they did it perfectly here. The Shrimp cocktail to start was very good with 5 good size shrimp. The. Onion rings were excellent as was the baked potatoes and creamed spinach. The steaks were great and prepared exactly as requested. We even asked for our porterhouse to be cut off the bone and sliced in The kitchen making it easier to share. No leave room for dessert. The Coconut Custard pie, home made, was awesome! There is a reason why this place is one of the top rated restaurants in West Palm Beach and among the top steakhouses in the country. You must give it a try! They've been around for 67 years and whe you try it you'll know why!

Exceptional service, food, & wine list. You can tell that the staff truly cares about their work and the restaurant. I would recommend the Delmonico(go ribeye or go home), the asparagus, & the calamari. OSH is easily better than Ruth's Chris and priced marginally better.

Went for lunch. Great service and nice setting. Hadn't been here in years. My sliced steak sandwich with caramelized onions, cheese and balsamic reduction on chibata bread with steak fries was phenomenal. Only drawback was the $20 price tag. Not an everyday kind of place but certainly a great place to splurge once in a while.

I was there for Mothers Day 2015. I had the colossal shrimp cocktail, the 14oz NY Strip with a salad and baked potato. NY Style Cheesecake for dessert. The steak was excellent!

The steaks are huge & absolutely delicious! The salad & bake potatoes are amazing! Dessert peanut butter cake was fantastic! Upscale steakhouse well worth the prices. I love Ruth Chris & Del Friscos. However, I would chose this place over them anytime!

I highly recommend this steakhouse! My husband and I went tonight for my Birthday dinner. Everything was spectacular! Our waiter was so nice and very informative about the different cuts of steaks. The food was fabulous. Great atmosphere. I will definitely be back! Five stars and if I could choose more, I'd choose 10 stars!

Little of the beaten path of west palm. With that said best steak house in town, great service wanted larger cut of porter house they could not be more accommodating. Great stuffed olive martinis to start and finished with Creme brûlée perfect!!!!

The food here is really good but I hate the atmosphere.. It reminds me someplace that Tony Soprano would eat at.. Its major old school dark and freezing in there.... A little outdated for my liking but the food was pretty good... And the Wait Staff has been there forever....

  • Neil Z.

Okeechobee steaks live up to their reputation. Fabulous. Service was a little slow, and the family atmosphere too noisy, but we enjoyed our meal immensely.

Yummy!

    (5)
